A man has today been charged with unlawfully killing a six-year-old Manchester girl who was crushed to death by an electronic gate more than two-and-a-half years ago.

Kriston Kearns, 40, is charged with unlawfully killing Semelia Campbell by gross negligence manslaughter after the tragic incident on June 28 2010.

Officers called to Maine Road just after 7.40pm found Semelia crushed between the gate, which was stuck fast, and a retaining wall.

Despite the emergency services eventually managing to free her, she never regained consciousness in hospital.

Kearns, of Offerton Road, Hazel Grove, will appear before Manchester Magistrates Court on March 12.
