Total eclipse of the sun: EasyJet take DETOUR to give passengers phenomenal view

Think you found the perfect spot to watch this morning’s solar eclipse? Well think again because passengers on a flight from Manchester Airport were given a spectacular view of the natural phenomenon.

EasyJet flight EZY 1805 to Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital, performed a controlled and safe manoeuvre in order to let passengers on the both sides of the plane witness one of nature’s greatest events.

The flight departed at 07:49am passing almost directly over the Faroe Islands, which was one of only two locations in the world to experience this magnificent occasion in all its glory.

The total eclipse occurs when the moon fully covers the sun resulting in a complete blackout – the full extent is only visible from two places on earth, the remote Faroe Islands and Norway’s Svalbard archipelago.

When speaking before the departure of the flight, Ali Gayward, the airline’s commercial manager said that passengers would be in for a once in a lifetime experience.

“It’s great that easyJet passengers from Manchester will be in the right place at the right time on Friday and are set to be rewarded the best view anywhere in the world from 37,000 feet,” she said.

“We would encourage passengers to bring eclipse viewing specs with them and keep their window blinds open for the safest but most spectacular way to view it.”

Unfortunately the rest of the UK only got to view a partial eclipse and even then most Britons were let down by the cloudy weather.
