Inexperienced Mancunians RL overpowered by bucking Bury Broncos in heavy Hough End defeat

By Alec Herron

An inexperienced and out-muscled Mancunians RL slumped to a heavy defeat against Bury Broncos in the North West Men’s Division Four on Saturday at the Hough End Stadium, Chorlton.

Broncos’ ten scores meant, despite scrum-half David Keane’s impressive kicking, a try each from Elliot Jenks and Liam Granelli proved only a consolation for the home side.

Mancunians’ prop-forward Stuart Stones was proud of the home side’s dogged display against an experienced outfit fighting for promotion.

“The difference between Mancunians RL and Bury Broncos was that we are a very young side who haven’t been together for very long,” he explained.

“Bury are a well drilled experienced side and deserved the win.”

Mancunians have several players finding their feet in the 13-man code, after acquiring 11 switchers from rugby union this season.

Despite an ominous scoreline, Tameside-born prop Stones sees potential in the starling Mancunians squad.

“I was impressed by all the new lads who have gotten stuck in this season having never played rugby league before,” he added.

“The whole team applied themselves really well and matched a good Bury Broncos side for long periods of the game.”

Mancunians RL next face Ashton Bears away on June 1st at 2.30pm.
