The younger brother of Manchester City’s Yaya and former Blue Kolo Toure has died in Manchester aged 28.
Ibrahim Toure passed away yesterday, an Ivory Coast FA statement confirmed.
The youngest Toure is understand to have died after a short battle with cancer.
The statement, which was released in French, read: “Kolo and Yaya Toure just heard about the death of their young brother, Toure Oyala Ibrahim. The entire Ivorian delegation want to show their support to the players.
“The Ivory Coast FA president and the executive committee have announced to the entire family of Ivorian football the death of Toure Oyala Ibrahim, the younger brother of Toure Kolo Abib and Toure Yaya Gnegneri, which happened on the 19th of June in Manchester (England).
“In such a sad situation, the players from the Ivory Coast national team, and the entire delegation here in Brazil, show their support to the Toure brothers and their whole family. The president of Football Ivory Coast Federation and the executive committee ask Ivorians for their prayers.”
Like his brothers, Ibrahim was also a professional footballer and featured for Metalurh Donetsk in Ukraine, Nice in France and Syrian side Al-Ittihad Aleppo.
His last club was Al Safa’ SC in Beirut, Lebanon.
Yaya, 31, and Kolo, 33, are both currently playing for the Elephants at the World Cup in Brazil.
Manchester City’s Yaya played the full 90 minutes for his side in the 2-1 defeat to Colombia yesterday, while Kolo, who left The Etihad a year ago to join Liverpool, was an unused substitute.
This is not the only tragedy to strike the African side’s 23-man-squad as Serrey Die played in the World Cup Group C match just two hours after the death of his father.
