By Alex Lanigan

Sale Sharks have signed a ‘world class’ player in experienced lock Nathan Hines, according to director of rugby Steve Diamond.

The 37-year-old will join Sale in June after leaving French side Clermont Auvergne helping fill the void left by the departing James Gaskell.

Diamond, believes Hines is will be a massive boost to Sale and help contribute to their future success.

“Nathan is a world-class player and will fit in well with us at Sale Sharks,” he said.

“He has vast experience playing at the highest level and is a regular starter at Clermont. Last weekend he was magnificent in helping his team beat Racing Paris.

“The forwards at Sale Sharks have played well this season and adding Nathan to the group will be a big boost to us.”

Hines has been capped 77 times by Scotland, despite being born in Australia, and was part of the British and Irish Lions Tour to South Africa in 2009.

The Scotsman retired from international rugby in 2011 after taking part of his third World Cup, and was part of Leinster’s 2010-11 Heineken Cup-winning side.
