Mercedes stabbing attack: Two men charged after Wigan man knifed 13 times and left for dead on doorstep

By Glen Keogh

Two men have been charged after a defenceless 59-year-old was stabbed 13 times by a pair demanding the keys to his Mercedes.

Lee James Henry Daniels and Kieran David Wright, both 26, have each been charged for wounding with intent, attempted robbery, burglary and possession of an offensive weapon.

The victim was confronted when he was leaving a relative’s house on Worcester Avenue, Hindley, on the morning of Sunday February 17.

He was stabbed by two men demanding the keys to his C220 Mercedes but they left empty-handed.

The victim is continuing to make good progress from serious injuries received to his arms and face.

Detective Inspector Graham Atherton said: “I know people in the community will continue to have questions but it is important we let the legal process take its natural course and not speculate.

"What I would say is that we are continuing to appeal to anyone with information about this attack to come forward, and we have not ruled out making further arrests of those who may have been involved in any aspect of this investigation.

"The family of the victim would like to thank the community for their help and support."

Daniels and Wright, both of Castleway, Hindley, are due before Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court today.

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 5307 or  Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
