Let’s hear you ‘roar’: Shrewsbury Town manager Mellon wants fans to go bananas for Man Utd visit

Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon has called on his team and fans to get excited for their FA Cup clash with Manchester United on Monday.

Mellon insists that his side won’t be overawed when taking on their Premier League opponents, despite occupying a lowly 19th place in League One.

And the former Burnley and West Bromwich Albion midfielder wants his players to produce an impressive result for a raucous home crowd at Greenhous Meadow.

“I’ve said if you don’t get excited about this then please move aside and give someone else a go because this is what football’s all about,” he said.

“We’ve had this place rocking before and it will be great to go and see it again.

“I’m very fortunate to have seen it a couple of times now and to be able to see it again is something I can look forward to.

“I know what it’s like when the people at Shrewsbury roar and know what the stadium is like and the atmosphere it creates.”

Former United midfielder Larnell Cole could be in line to start for the Shrews having recovered from a groin problem, while defender Jack Grimmer may also feature.

United travel to Shropshire on the back of a humiliating 2-1 Europa League defeat by FC Midtjylland on Thursday, but Town striker Andy Mangan is still looking forward to facing the 11-times FA Cup champions.

“I am excited,” he said.

“I’ve obviously got two little lads now, Lewie and Finlay, and Lewie is six and really into his football so he’s going to be able to enjoy his dad playing against Manchester United, which doesn’t come around all that often.

“Manchester United, they’re a world superpower aren’t they? They’re one of the biggest clubs ever.”
