Film starring Rochdale cerebral palsy sufferer nominated for national award

A film starring a Rochdale school pupil with cerebral palsy has been nominated for a national award sponsored by leading production companies.

‘Paul’s Story’, featuring Redwood secondary school student Paul Diamond, has been nominated for Into Film’s best documentary for ages 13 and over at the awards ceremony taking place at London’s Leicester Square on March 24.

Into Film are a charity providing youngsters with opportunities to take part in film projects, with the film being made as part of their See It, Make It project by students at the school.

Danny Lomax, executive producer of Glass Eye Productions, helped the students before they launched into the filming process and said he was ‘proud’ of their achievements.

“We worked alongside Redwood Secondary School as well as a number of other schools and groups over the spring term in 2014,” he said.

“For a number of weeks, we guided participants through the development and production of their ideas and through to making them a reality – promoting both ownership and a sense of achievement.

“I am particularly proud at how participants at Redwood took on different roles and came together as a team to produce ‘Paul’s Story’, which has now been nominated for a national film award.

“I look forward to supporting the group at the awards ceremony.”

Glass Eye Productions is a production company providing a platform and a voice for young people, schools and communities to create and share their stories.

Fran Woods, a teacher at Redwood Secondary school, said that she saw greatly developed ‘teamwork’ and ‘leadership’ skills in the students as they were all in charge of their own work.

The event in London’s Leicester Square is sponsored by leading production companies 20th Century Fox, Eon Productions, MGM, Sony Productions and the London Film Museum.
