Man, 22, in intensive care after being beaten and left for dead in Manchester city centre – teenager arrested

A man is in a critical condition after he was assaulted and left unconscious in Manchester city centre in the early hours of this morning.

Officers were called to Oxford Street near the NCP car park around 5am and found the 22-year-old unconscious on the floor with serious head injuries.

He was rushed to hospital and remains in intensive care – a short time later police arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of Grievous Bodily Harm.

Detective Sergeant Shagufta Khan from the City Centre Neighbourhood Team said: “A young man remains in intensive care after he was found seriously injured in the early hours of this morning.

“This victim had been assaulted and has suffered serious head injuries.

“We have arrested a man in connection with this incident and our investigation is ongoing.

“We believe there were other people in the area at the time and we are appealing for them to come forward and tell us what they saw.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at the CID in north Manchester directly on 0161 856 3543.”
