A man is being questionned by police after a brutal machete attack in Manchester left a victim with serious head injuries.
The 29-year-old man was arrested by officers today on suspicion of Section 18 Wounding and remains in police custody.
During the middle of the day, a 35-year-old man was attacked on Shortwood Close, Newton Heath, and suffered severe injuries to his head, hands and arms.
Chief Inspector Sarah Jones said: "We would also like to reassure residents that we do not believe this was a random attack and they should not be overly alarmed. Additional patrols are in place in the area."
After the violent incident, officers claimed that it was not a random attack but planned and targeted, but dismissed any link between the gun and grenade blast that left David Short dead.
Tensions in the area are futile as an on going family feud has cost a father and son their lives.
