Unfazed Sir Alex Ferguson 'satisfied' with defeat as Manchester United drop first points at Galatasaray

Sir Alex Ferguson was largely unfazed by Manchester United’s narrow Champions League defeat to Galatasaray.

United fell victim to a 1-0 defeat, courtesy of a Burak Yilmaz header, but there were a number of positives to take from it.

The Reds had already qualified for the knockout stages before the game and fielded an inexperienced team, which pleased Ferguson.

"I think they handled the atmosphere and the temperament was good," stated Sir Alex. "They handled that okay. Parts of the game were good but the area in which we were worried about – set-pieces – we suffered. That was always going to be a worry for us.

"Other than that, I was satisfied and it was a decent performance. We had some good attacking play in the first half and at that point the only trouble they gave us was from outside the box. It was a very competitive, good game."

Many of United’s big names didn’t make the trip to Turkey, which was marred by trouble at the airport as they arrived.

But a number of the youngsters stepped up and gave a good account of themselves, including Nick Powell, who hit the bar with a header.

United now look forward to facing QPR on Saturday as they bid to regain top spot in the Premier League.
