‘Bouncing with energy’: Manchester running scene to profit from £50k investment

If you want to pound the pavement like legendary runner Ron Hill in 2016, Manchester are investing big in two 10k events to get you in the mood to exercise.

Hill – who famously ran at least a mile every day for 50 years between 1964-2014 and is still going strong – was on hand as UKFast yesterday announced their £50,000 investment with leading sports travel company Sports Tours International.

The money will fund the We Love MCR 10K and the City of Salford 10K events, in July and September respectively, much to Hill’s delight.

“I have supported the We Love MCR 10K and City of Salford 10K since they launched and they are both fantastic events which people of all ages and abilities can get involved in,” said the 77-year-old three-times Olympian.

“It’s great to see UKFast investing in this and I look forward to being involved in an exciting partnership.”

The We Love MCR 10K will take place on Sunday July 10 with the City of Salford 10K on Sunday September 4.

UKFast CEO Lawrence Jones said he wanted to get as many people as possible involved in running.

“It’s my mission to make Manchester the number one tech city in the UK and we can’t do that with everyone sat behind computers.

“We need to inspire people to get up from their desks and get their heart rates pumping. We want to get Manchester and Salford bouncing with energy.”
