The news Jimmy Anderson is available for two early season LV= County Championship games has cushioned the blow of Kabir Ali missing the start of the domestic camapign through injury.

The ECB has announced Anderson can feature in fixtures against Kent and Glamorgan ahead of England’s first Investec Test Match against New Zealand in May.

Former England international Ali – a close season signing from Hampshire – is receiving treatment after failing to recover from a knee injury sustained while playing in the Banglasdesh Premier League.

“He jarred his knee in the foot holes during his time in Bangladesh,” cricket director Mike Watkinson told Lancashire’s official wesbite.

“When he came back to us and started training indoors, it began to swell up.

“He went to see the surgeon for an arthroscopy and he will have to go and see him again.

“We’re hopeful it is nothing too serious.”

Ali has not travelled to Dubai as part of the Red Rose’s pre-season preparations and is back at Emirates Old Trafford under the supervision of the club’s medial staff.

Lancashire lost their opening match of the tour – a Twenty20 fixture against Sussex – which acted as a warm-up for the clash with a Fly Emirates XI on Friday morning.

Lancashire posted 188-9 from their 20 overs with Andrea Agathangelou top-scoring with 42, as Sussex won by 8 wickets with 16 balls to spare.

Friday’s showdown is for a place in the final of the Emirates Airline T20 competition with Sussex and the MCC making up the other semi-final.
