Manchester City football fans will soon be able to purchase a match-day public transport season ticket, under a new initiative launched by Metrolink.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has worked with Manchester City to create the ticket, which will cost £70 for adults and £30 for children, aged 5-16.

MCFC season ticket holders will be able to travel from any of the 64 tram stops to the Etihad Campus stop.

TfGM’s Metrolink Director, Peter Cushing, said: “Manchester is the most famous footballing city in the world and the game contributes millions to the local economy every year.

“We’re proud that Metrolink offers a fast, frequent and reliable match-day service for football fans travelling across the region.”

The match-day ticket will be valid for travel to and from first team home games at the Etihad, which will include 19 Premier League matches, as well as any home matches in cup competitions.

Metrolink has become a regular fixture for fans since the Etihad stop opened in February, with fan favourites Vincent Kompany, James Milner and Joe Hart making on-tram announcements on match days.

Adam Hayden is a life-long Manchester City supporter who hopes to get a season ticket next year. He said: “The Metrolink match-day season ticket is a great idea.

“I normally drive to home matches, but when you take into account the price of petrol, and parking, £70 is cheap for the whole season!”

Metrolink is in discussions with other clubs along the tram network to introduce similar deals for fans.

Mr Cushing said: “It’s a premier league tram system and we are delighted that Manchester City is on board with our drive to get match-day traffic off the roads and on to our trams.

“The new Metrolink season ticket offers great value for money and a hassle-free journey to the Etihad.”

The Metrolink match-day season ticket can only be purchased alongside MCFC season tickets, which are now on sale.
