Too afraid to sleep: Pensioner, 82, robbed and threatened with mop by thug who broke into Tameside home

By Ryan Errington

An 82-year-old woman was threatened with her own mop when a man broke into the pensioner’s Tameside home while she was watching TV.

At about 10.20pm on Monday, the man grabbed the mop from the kitchen of her Glenmore Grove, Dukinfield home after entering from the back.

He confronted the terrified woman, who was watching TV in the living room, then grabbed her handbag which was next to the sofa and fled.

“The woman was so shaken up by what happened,” Detective Constable David Montgomery said.

“She was too afraid to go bed and didn’t want to leave the sofa.

“We are determined to catch the person responsible for this and have launched a thorough investigation to find him.”

The offender is described as being white, 6ft 2in to 6ft 3in tall, of medium build, and was wearing a dark hooded top.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 9311 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
