Irish star Hozier ready to end award-filled month on high with Manchester Bank Holiday gig

Soulful Irish rock crooner Hozier is heading to Manchester on Monday and is sure to be in celebratory mood having just picked up an Ivor Novello Award.

His success at the Ivor Novello’s, where he picked up the award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for Take Me To Church, comes just weeks after winning two Billboard Music Awards.

To say his gig at the Albert Hall is going to be a celebration is probably a bit of an understatement.

And with his country due to vote in today in the same-sex marriage referendum, Hozier took some time out of his busy touring schedule to head back home to vote yes in favour.

Following the huge viral success of his Take Me To Church video, which was a direct attack on Russian attitudes to homosexuality his newest video has the star power of Natalie Dormer.

Natalie spoke about the video and Hozier’s work saying: “It was a joy to be a part of the ‘Someone New’ video, which for me explores the struggle in all our heads between the Real and Imaginary; it plays with ideas of how loneliness and isolation are two different things and the weight or lightness we can attach to loving another person.”

And it seems the feeling was mutual from Hozier who also spoke of his joy at working with Natalie to create the video

He said: “I was thrilled to be able to work with Natalie Dormer on this project. She’s an actress of incredible talent and intelligence, and a joy to work with.”

The video was also a chance for a little family bonding as Hozier (real name Andrew Hozier-Byrne) worked with his brother Jon Hozier-Byrne to create it.

To get you in the mood for Monday’s gig, here’s a taste of his Ivor Novello Award-wining hit Take Me To Church:
