Bolton mother cautioned for child neglect after two youngsters injured in Halliwell house blaze

A Bolton mother is being cautioned for child neglect after two youngsters were injured in house fire.

Firefighters were called to a home on Longden Street, Halliwell, after a blaze broke out on Monday.

A 25-year-old woman was cautioned by police after three-year-old boy and one-year-old girl had to be rescued – the boy suffered serious injuries but was discharged from hospital.

Detective Constable Maggie Lane, from Bolton Public Protection Investigation Unit, said: ”This woman made an error of judgement and any action that we have or could have taken will not come close to the amount of guilt and remorse she is feeling.

“Thankfully the children were not badly injured and both have been released from hospital.

“I hope this makes people realise that just leaving children alone for a matter of minutes could have devastating effects.”

A joint investigation with GMFRS established that the cause of the fire was not deliberate.
