Masked gang armed with concrete boulder attempt to rob Salford Post Office but flee empty handed

By Danielle Wainwright

A gang of masked robbers are still being hunted after using a concrete boulder to smash through a post office security screen in Salford – but fled empty handed.

Two men with hoods covering their faces burst into the post office on Mocha Parade in Lower Broughton and tried to smash the screen at the cashier’s desk at around 1pm on Thursday June 6.

A third man stood at the entrance and attempted to stop customers from leaving the shop by pulling down the roller shutter.

However their attempts were unsuccessful and they fled empty handed in the direction of Riverside.

Detective Constable Sue West, of Swinton CID, said: “Although this incident happened more than a month ago we are as determined as ever to take these would be robbers off the street.

“We have spoken to several witnesses who were there at the time, but we haven’t been able to trace the offenders.

“If you saw anything, no matter how insignificant it might have seemed at the time please get in touch. Your call could help us take these men off the streets.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 5360 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
