Manchester is sleep walking capital of UK… with more Mancunians talking, kissing and streaking while snoozing

Ever nudged your other half in the ribs in the vain hope that they’ll stop snoring and let you get a decent night’s sleep?

It seems you’re not alone as Manchester has been branded the sleep walking capital of the UK with more Mancunians talking, kissing and even streaking in their sleep, according to recent research.

Restless nights have seens 10.5% of Mancunians admitting to sleep walking and almost half have admitted to annoying their other half by snoring through the night according to bed manufacturer Silentnight.

Just 6% of North West respondents claimed they had a peaceful rest and slept through the night whereas a whopping 79% admitted to suffering from sleeping problems.

Dr Nerina Ramlakhan, Silentnight’s sleep expert and a sleep therapist at Capio Nightingale Hospital, said: “Whilst the study revealed some of our more quirky bedtime habits, it’s clear that as a nation there are many factors that are keeping us awake at night which can have a serious impact on our day-to-day lives.”

For North West residents it’s their partner that’s the problem with 55% of residents woken by a partner sleep talking and 28% by a partner getting the night time giggles.

From a national perspective around 1 in 16 respondents claim they have witnessed a partner raiding the fridge, or have had their partner attempt to kiss them while asleep.

And some cheeky partners have witnessed their partner enter a public environment naked whilst asleep.

Silentnight are launching its first online sleep clinic, and the manufacturer is looking for ten troubled sleepers to take part in the four-week Sleep Clinic.

Dr Ramlakhan said: “The Sleep Clinic is aimed at educating people across the UK that a few simple techniques can help the nation get a great night’s sleep every night.”

But it’s not just restless bed habits that has kept the nation awake, a quarter of us Brits are kept up at night by money worries, stress and noisy neighbours, and 8% of men blame their sex life has kept them up late.

But it’s not just in the bedroom where people are trying to catch 40 winks, one in six have admitted to falling asleep on public transport, with one in 10 in the bath and on the toilet.
