Manchester United squash rivals in hunt to sign Wilfred Zaha as Arsenal reveal they 'never' had hope of transfer

Talent trappers Manchester United remain favourites to land highly-rated youngster Wilfred Zaha after Arsenal dismissed claims they were ever realistically in pursuit of his signature.

The 20-year-old Crystal Palace ace has been tangled in transfer speculation since earning his first call-up to the England squad last year – with United heavily rumoured to have already clinched a deal.

And despite reports linking the Gunners with the winger, Arsene Wenger denied any hope of capturing in the £15million man.

"We were never in for Zaha,” the Frenchman said.

"I don't know if he will go to Manchester United. If he goes to United, good luck to him."

Newspaper reports suggested that Sir Alex Ferguson has held ‘secret meetings’ with Zaha’s representatives after their 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Sunday.

Neither club have commented on the reports, but Palace boss Ian Holloway would still be eager to see any potential deal include a loan-back option for Zaha to remain at Sellhurst Park.
