‘Pillow fists’ Fury puts in punch perfect performance in Vegas to down Deontay

Tyson Fury added the WBC Heavyweight crown to his collection and in doing so became the first boxer in history to win every major world title in the division at some stage of his career.

The ‘Gypsy King’ rose back to the top of the division as he stopped Deontay Wilder in the seventh round, inflicting the first defeat on the Americans resume. After a controversial draw in their first bout, Fury put in a punch perfect performance, and ensured that this time the decision wasn’t left down to the judges.

The fight was seen very much as a 50/50 before the first bell….it was anything but when both men got in between the ropes! We can take a lot away from what was an enthralling rematch between two of the best heavyweights on the planet…

History is made!

Before either man stepped into the squared circle, it was announced that the fight had broken the record for a heavyweight gate in Las Vegas eclipsing the $16.8m that Lennox Lewis v Evander Holyfield 2 did at the Thomas and Mack Center.

Fury’s punch power

So much for ‘pillow fists’! In the build-up to the rematch, Deontay Wilder mocked Tyson Fury saying he had ‘pillow fists’ after the Gypsy King threatened to knock the ‘Bronze Bomber’ out in two rounds.

Whilst Fury didn’t get his wish of a second-round knockout, he was able to put Wilder down twice before the American’s corner threw in the towel in round seven, giving the Mancunian a technical knockout victory.

This latest victory saw Fury improve his record to 30-0-1, with 21 of his victories coming by way of knockout, showing that he certainly is a big puncher amongst the top heavyweights.

Las Vegas is the home of ‘The Gypsy King’

Tyson Fury was a born entertainer and is fitting right into the bright lights of Las Vegas. Having now had his last three fights on the Las Vegas strip, ‘Sin City’ is definitely becoming home for the Gypsy King!

All three of those fights have seen Fury come out victorious and he looks very much settled out there. Just over 5000 miles separate Las Vegas and Manchester, but this hasn’t stopped fans flocking in their droves to see Fury and it was no different for the Wilder rematch.

Despite it being in Wilder’s home country, most of the noise was coming from Fury fans who had travelled over to show their support, and with both sides of the fence doing their jobs why fix what’s not broken!

Sets up the undisputed fight with Anthony Joshua

Even though the fight only ended a few hours ago the question on most people’s lips will be what’s next for Tyson Fury?

Deontay Wilder does have a clause in his contract that he can trigger a third fight between the pair later in the year but with all the heavyweight titles now in the hands of British fighters an undisputed showdown with Anthony Joshua definitely whets the appetite!

Not long after the fight was over, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn took to social media suggesting that two men collide this summer in what would be a blockbuster affair for Britain!
