MPs fiddling expenses? They should be ‘taken out and SHOT’, says Oldham Lib Dem councillor

MPs who fraudulently claimed expenses should be SHOT, according to an Oldham Liberal Democrat councillor.

Cllr Howard Sykes for Shaw Ward made his shocking comments as votes were counted at Queen Elizabeth Hall on West Street.

Sykes slammed those who brought politics into disrepute by claiming expenses.

He said: “In my opinion we should take them out shoot and them.

“We are paying the price locally for what has happened nationally.”

The outspoken councillor also didn’t hold back when it came to UKIP or the low turnout for Oldham, which totaled just 38.08%.

“UKIP still did not manage to motivate the 60% who can’t be arsed who stayed at home and didn’t vote,” he said.

“It will be a good day if we get out with double figures on the council.”

Oldham has been a hotly-contested area between Labour and Liberal Democrats in recent years, but the borough has been seen as potentially fertile ground for UKIP.

UKIP took a seat from the Lib Dems in Saddleworth and Lees.  Peter Klonowski received 917 votes beating Lib Dem candidate Robert Allsopp into second with 778 votes.

The Liberal Democrats also lost a seat in Waterside, where Labour candidate Riaz Ahmad won with 1198 votes, the Liberal Democrat’s Linda Dawson placed third behind the UKIP runner Nicholas Goldleman.

Independent Candidate Nikki Kirkham stole a seat the Lib Dems in Saddleworth North gaining 1146 votes, leaving the Lib Dem hopeful Alan Roughly trailing behind with 669 votes.

Lib Dems performed poorly elsewhere, Keith Taylor came last in Chadderton North with just 75 votes, Bill Cullen received a poultry 24 votes in Saddleworth East.

The liberal Democrats have however held on to Shaw, as Rob Bylth obtained 1106v otes, followed by Peter Brown for UKIP with 704 votes.
