Manchester Arena attack: Fundraiser hits £20,000 after outpouring of support to help the families of victims

A fundraiser has exceeded £20,000 to help the families of those killed in the attack at Manchester Arena. 

The JustGiving page – which started with a goal of reaching £5,000 – smashed its target shortly after going live on Tuesday.

Set up my the Manchester Evening News, the crowdfunder will see donations go towards ‘support[ing] the families in the aftermath of the attack’.

So far more than 1,000 people have given money – and that figure is growing by the second.

One contributor wrote: “Love and Hugs for all the families out there going through pain right now.”

Another added: “Sending love to all of the families affected by this terrible atrocity. Time for Manchester to pull together and support each other.”

Meanwhile, other crowdfunding pages have been set up with similar intentions – most of which have already brought in hundreds of pounds.

Greater Manchester Police has confirmed that 22 people were killed in the incident that occured after singer Ariana Grande finished a concert at Manchester Arena on Monday.

A further 59 have been injured.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 10:30pm after gig-goers reported two explosions. 

Teenager Georgina Callandergirl has been named as the first victim from the attack at Manchester Arena.

Close friends confirmed that the 16-year-old had sadly lost her life to the Evening Standard.
