Didsbury couple in mission to marry 30 times across the globe - and turn it into a business

Love is in the air, or more precisely, on a plane for a recently engaged Didsbury couple.

Alex Pelling and Lisa Grant flew to Toronto yesterday to hold the second of a planned thirty wedding ceremonies in an elaborate new business venture.

Their aim is to find the most exotic location to be married, and return there after their two year long trip and tie the knot for real.

Alex said: "Along the way, we intend to create a buzz and emerge with a relatively strong brand to spring board off."

Adding: "You only live once and if life isn't about stuff like this then I don't know what it's about at all."

The first ceremony took place at Didsbury's The Metroploitan Pub on Burton Road, Monday morning with invites going out to anyone and everyone who wanted to take part.

With help from PR firm, Didsbury Life, and local businesses, the couple arranged a bar and restaurant crawl of West Didsbury.

Flowers from The Flower Lounge; a wedding dress from the White Closet; hair and make-up from Macloed Bradley, and free champagne from Reserve Wines, were given to the couple for free.

Bride-to-be Lisa said: "I thought he'd arranged a spa day for me, but when he said I had a hair appointment at the White Closet I knew he was up to something.

"I couldn't have asked for anything better."

The event was seen by many as an opportunity to exhibit the strength and passion of the local area.

Helen from Didsbury Life said:  "We wanted to showcase that we have unique and independent businesses here on Burton Road who can become an integral part of a wedding.

"Without the businesses, it wouldn’t have happened."
