Chorlton pensioner, 99, hit by reversing car and left ‘seriously injured’ in street

A 99-year-old pensioner has been left seriously injured in hospital when she was hit by a reversing car in Chorlton yesterday as she left the post office.

At about 10.10am the elderly woman was involved in a collision with a car on Egerton Road South and the driver went into the post office to request an ambulance.

The motorist then drove off and the woman was rushed to Manchester Royal Infirmary where her condition is described as serious but stable.

A 63-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop after a road traffic collision and has been bailed until October 24 pending further inquiries. 

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to call 0161 856 4741.
