Bolton Wanderers’ ‘crazy 11 minutes’ after half time cost them Brighton match, claims Dougie Freedman

By Scott Hunt

Bolton manager Dougie Freedman blames a ‘crazy’ 11 minutes at the start of the second half for their 3-1 loss to Brighton on Saturday.

The defeat leaves Wanderers rooted to the foot of the Championship and still without a win this season – their worst league start in 50 years.

Bolton were ahead at half time thanks to a David Lopez own goal but three goals in four second half minutes condemned them to fifth defeat of the season.

“I thought we were very comfortable in the first half with a one nil lead,” Dougie Freedman said.

“It was a crazy 11 minutes which ended up costing us the game.

“That has been the story of our season. We have played well in patches and created a few scoring chances but they didn’t fall our way.”

A Jay Spearing own goal on 53 minutes put Brighton level at the Amex Stadium and appeared to trigger a collapse from Bolton.

Goals from Inigo Calderon and Will Buckley within the next four minutes left Dougie Freedman bemoaning a lack of confidence in his side.

“When Brighton scored their first goal you could see a lack of focus,” he said.

“We have to start winning football matches which will breed confidence. We need to go back to basics.

“At the moment it is difficult for everybody involved at Bolton. There is no doubt about that.”

Bolton’s second round Capital One cup exit to Tranmere means it is a week before their next game, when they face fellow strugglers Yeovil at The Reebok.

Freedman will be desperately hoping for a change of fortune as pressure continues to build on him and his position as Bolton Wanderers manager.
