‘We need a spark’: Hyde United boss looking to bounce back after Welling defeat

By Arandeep Dhillon

Hyde are still waiting for their first league win as Scott McNiven’s side lost 1-0 in a tightly contested game with Welling United at Ewen Fields.

Scott McNiven’s side remain at the bottom of the table after taking just two points from 12 games.

The Tigers fielded a team which included emergency loan signing, Nick Liversedge from Burnley who replaced the injured David Carnell in goal.

McNiven admitted he was concerned by his side’s poor form and urged the team to put together a string of positive results.

“It’s been tough so we’ve got to bounce back quick and start getting points on the board. We need a cutting edge, we need a spark and its only the player’s who can do that so its up to them to get us out of it,” he said

“We need to put a winning run together and the FA Cup is included in that so we’ve just got to get the mentality to win every game that we possibly can.”

After an end to end first half an hour, Hyde went behind to a 37 minute header from Joe Healy and despite having the greater possession, they went into the break behind.

There were chances for both sides in the second half with Liversedge keeping the score at 1-0 but Hyde failed make the breakthrough.

McNiven’s side will now look to Tuesday’s game away at Salisbury City to try and get that first win under their belt.
