‘A force to be reckoned with’: Wigan target third straight win in Bradford trip

Wigan travel to Bradford City on Saturday looking for a three wins out of three in what would be a very productive week for the team.

Latics’ made it eight unbeaten in all competitions in midweek after a five-goal thriller at Peterborough saw a Max Power winner seal a 3-2 away win.

The side seem to finally be living up to their pre-season hype after an average start to the campaign and a win at Valley Parade would almost certainly lift them into the top-six.

Midweek match winner Power is enjoying his best form in a Latics’ shirt at the moment as Gary Caldwell’s side have managed to notch 10 goals in three games.

And the midfielder says the return of so many players from injury and suspension has increased the competition for places.

“The number of players that arrived in the summer is in double figures and things like that take time to come together,” Power said.

“Now, when you look at the strength on the bench and the players not in the squad too, you see we’re a force to be reckoned with.

“There is fierce competition, everyone is battling hard every day in training to keep hold of their shirt and that is healthy for the squad, it will stand us in good stead as the season goes on.”

After a number of key injuries the squad is almost back at full strength and the competition for places looks to have coincided with the upturn in form.

Grant Holt and Craig Davies were both introduced from the bench against Posh as the strike duo continue to fight for a place back in the side following injury, and Caldwell was pleased with the impact the pair made.

“The squad is very important,” he said.

“Grant and Craig were both excellent when they came on in terms of their experience, the way they held the ball up with Craig setting up the third goal.

“At a time when we needed calm heads, they provided that and helped us see out the game and get the win.”

This along with the recent new additions has really made the difference it seems and Wigan will go to Bradford high on confidence.

Bradford have been unable to find any sort of consistency over recent weeks but still only find themselves four points behind Wigan.

They did however end Bury’s 10-match unbeaten run in midweek with a well-deserved win and will be looking to build on this at home against Latics’.

The win came at a cost for the Bantams though after news that striker Steven Davies is facing up to three months out with a knee injury.
