‘The game kicks you where it hurts’: Dunn backs Oldham to regroup after Barnsley loss

David Dunn was left ruing another poor start as Barnsley ended a run of eight straight defeats with victory at Boundary Park.

Conor Hourihane gave returning Lee Johnson’s Tykes a first-half lead, before Mark Yeates equalised only for Kevin Long to hit a late winner for the visitors.

On the back of two consecutive wins, Dunn came away disappointed that his side could not capitalise on a strong second-half performance and improve their dire home form.

“Sometimes this game kicks you where it hurts at times,” said Dunn.

“Unfortunately for us, there were not enough of us that played well today. Everyone in the ground knew that we didn’t really turn up first half.

“As a team, I don’t think we can afford to be only playing in 45-minute periods. That is something that we will need to address.”

Latics have now recorded back-to-back home losses, failing to win as hosts in eight attempts and picking up just three points in the process.

But Dunn’s men are still unbeaten on the road, and have a chance to right their Boundary Park wrongs as early as Tuesday when playoff pushers Southend are the visitors.

“One thing you get a chance to do in football is put it right pretty quickly, and there’s no quicker time to do it than Tuesday.

“As disappointed as I feel right now, it is important that we regroup and get them all ready for Tuesday. It is a game we can go and win.”
