Do do that again Dodoo… Bury’s Flitcroft delighted after loanee Joe plays to the crowd

Bury boss David Flitcroft says he is looking forward to working closely with new loan signing Joe Dodoo, after a bright debut in the 1-0 home win over Burton Albion.

The Leicester loanee, who scored a hat-trick on his debut for his parent team to knock the Shakers out of the Capital One Cup, had a first half cross deflected into the net off Jerome Binnom-Williams for the only goal of the game.

Earlier in the first half, Dodoo forced a low save from goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin as he fired through a crowd in the penalty area from a corner.

Dodoo also provided a cross to Tom Pope who had his header cleared off the line and after an influential start Flitcroft felt vindicated for bringing the forward to the club.

“He’s justified us bringing him in,” Flitcroft stated.

“I was delighted, he’s very unpredictable and is a player that gets you excited when he’s on the ball because he that can do things that other players can’t.

“I can tell that I’m going to enjoy working with him and spending some more time with him.”

Dodoo’s defensive performance also pleased Flitcroft and he believes that this is a result of working under former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri.

“He’s come from Leicester, where Claudio and Craig [Shakespeare] do a lot of defensive structural work,” Flitcroft said.

“First and second half I can’t remember their full back Binnom-Williams ever making an impact on the game.

“Joe competed well and I’m delighted – he’s made a big impact on today’s game, in and out of possession.

“He’s been playing Under 21s football and you can see that’s not a stimulus for him anymore – he wants to be in front of the crowd, feel the atmosphere and that there’s important points to play for.”
