Hunt for callous thugs who kicked Wigan dad unconscious as son, 5, helplessly watched ‘savage’ attack

By Marios Papaloizou

Police are searching for the callous thugs who repeatedly kicked a Wigan dad until he was unconscious as his five-year-old son helplessly watched.

The ‘savage’ and ‘unprovoked’ attack occurred just after midnight on January 24 as the 38-year-old was walking along Dicconson Terrace, Swinley.

The unsuspecting father was approached by three men and struck in the face.

He was attacked by the group, and repeatedly kicked after falling to the floor.

After being knocked unconscious the heartless gang departed leaving the young child to alert family friends of the incident and police were then called.

Detective Sergeant Peter Carletti based at Wigan Police Station said: “This was clearly a terrifying attack to both the victim and his son.

“The man was worried his child may have been injured and a five-year-old boy could only watch as his dad was repeatedly kicked and knocked unconscious.

“This was an unprovoked and savage attack that has left him with a fractured cheekbone.  Fortunately, the boy was not physically injured.”

One of the attackers is white, in his mid 20s, of medium build, 5ft 9in tall and had short blonde hair with grazes on his forehead. He was wearing a beige coat and spoke with a local accent.

The other two thugs are both white and spoke with local accents.

One of them is in his mid 20s, of slim build, with short hair and is about 5ft 11in tall.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 7967 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
