Salford bookies terror threat: Thugs with ‘bomb’ traumatise William Hill staff

A William Hill worker was left ‘shaken’ and terrified after a hooded man entered the Eccles bookies and threatened to detonate a bomb unless she handed over cash yesterday morning.

The man –  who is described as white, about 30-years-old, 5ft 8in tall, of medium build and was clean shaven – walked into the Church Street gambling shop and handed staff a note that said he had a bomb in his bag, while his accomplice kept watch outside.

After threatening staff with a bomb, the thief demanded they hand over the money before fleeing on foot with cash.

Detective Sergeant Peter Morris said: “A woman was confronted by a man claiming to have a bomb in his bag.

“Thankfully she wasn’t hurt, but she was understandably shaken by this traumatic ordeal.”

The man who entered the shop at about 9:40am Monday morning was wearing a black waist-length jacket with a blue top underneath and the hood pulled up, a baseball cap, black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers and was carrying a black holdall.

The man who waited outside the shop is described as white, between 5ft 7in and 5ft 8in tall, of slim build and was wearing a black waist-length jacket with the hood up, jeans and black trainers.

Detective Morris added: “I would encourage anyone who witnessed the incident or recognises the descriptions of the men to get in touch with police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5470 or 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
