Flights launch from Manchester Airport to Athens as airline company Aegan expand UK routes

By Charlie Boydell-Smith

Holidaymakers and business travellers will now be able to fly direct to Athens from Manchester Airport, thanks to expanded flight routes.

Greek company Aegan will begin operating a new service to Athens International from tomorrow.

Aegan will connect Manchester Airport to Athens International with bi-weekly flights, making it easier for passengers to fly direct to the Greek capital and connect to any of the twelve domestic airports Aegan fly to.

Ken O’Toole, chief commercial officer for Manchester Airports Group (MAG), said: “This service will also offer great opportunities for holiday makers as well as people travelling between Manchester and Greece on business.”

The service will also benefit Greek students in the region, making it easier for them to fly home directly.

Mr O’Toole said: “There is also a large community of Greek students in Manchester so this new route will provide a quicker and easier way of travelling home for them as they can now travel direct from their local airport.”

The new route timetable departs from Manchester on Saturday at 21:05, landing in Athens at 02:50.

The return journey will leave Athens at 18:15 and arrive back to Manchester at 20:20.

Aegan Alliances, a member of Star Alliance network, is Greece’s largest full-service airline, carrying 6.1million passengers in 2012.

In 2012, Aegean was ranked ‘Best Regional Airline Europe’ in a worldwide survey of more than 18million airline passengers conducted by Skytrax, an independent research firm.
