Red Devilish: Hot-headed David Moyes will crack the whip at Manchester United, insists Marouane Fellaini

By Chris Bailey

Sir Alex Ferguson was renowned for his hairdryer and Manchester United transfer target Marouane Fellaini believes David Moyes will install a similarly-punishing regime at his new club.

The Belgian worked under Moyes for five years – following his £15m transfer from Standard Liege in summer 2008 – and scored a career-best 12 goals last season.

But if Fellaini’s experience with the Scot is anything to go by, United’s players will not want to cross their incoming boss.

“I remember when I was banned after the Stoke game, he gave everyone the day off,” Fellaini told The Mirror. “But I came to the training camp to do a training session with him.

“It was just me and him, and it is not easy to go into the camp to face him like that.

“I understood, because I knew I had made a mistake, but you know it’s not easy when you know you have let him down.

“Just going in there knowing you have to look him in the eye was hard!

“He put me through a tough session, a full-on session – running, shooting, passing, everything and very intense, and afterwards I was upset.

“I said afterwards, ‘Argh, this is bad’, but I am happy when he looked after me, so I understand.”

The 50-year-old will have a full inbox tray at the start of his Red Devils tenure with Wayne Rooney looking for a way out and Nani slated for an Old Trafford exit.

And while Moyes may look to stamp his authority from the off, Fellaini does not begrudge his former manager for anything – insisting the ex-defender knows how to win football matches.

“He is a decent man, a great manager, but believe me he can be tough,” added Fellaini.

“If you want to win something, to create a good team you have to be hard sometimes with the players – football is like this. He can be scary.”
