Passport Office chaos: £55 ‘incompetence’ charge should be refunded, says Manchester MP Kate Green

Holidaymakers who forked out extra money due to the passport crisis should have their money refunded, claims a Manchester MP.

Kate Green, MP for Stretford and Urmston, has slammed the chaos caused by the huge backlog of passport applications.

The Shadow Minister for Work and Pensions has now issued a plea to Theresa May to refund the £55 fast-track charge that worried travellers have spent to ensure they get their passports.

Ms Green said: “It’s unacceptable that the Passport Office should make money out of Theresa May’s incompetence and mismanagement.

“More and more people in Trafford have got in touch with me to tell me of the stress they’ve been having with their passports and the extra money they’ve had to pay to get it sorted.”

Disgruntled holiday makers took to Twitter to vent their frustration.

Passengers travelling on holiday have been coerced into a £55 charge for fast-tracked passports due to the office failing to reassure customers their application processes would meet the deadline.
