Warehouse Project 2013 line-up: WHP returns to Manchester with stellar list of stars

By Amber Haque

Stop what you’re doing, get ready to pull some sickies for work, postpone the divorce, because you don’t want to miss this… Warehouse Project is back.

For 12 weeks some of the greatest DJs from across the globe will descend upon Manchester soil to grace the decks and bring the city’s underground rave scene to life.

House music souls all across the country had their alarms triple set for the 9am release of our lives in the 2013 line-up, and it definitely surpassed all expectations.

The Chemical Brothers, Richie Hawtin, Laurent Garnier, Rudimental, Nero, Axwell and Armin Van Buuren are just a few of the names on the list – not to mention Hot Chip, Chromeo and even Phoenix taking a turn.

This year’s bill is firmly reaffirming Manchester on the music map, despite the city waving a tear-filled goodbye to one of its iconic veteran underground clubs Sankeys earlier this year.

The founding ‘god’ of Warehouse Project, Sacha Lord, explained that the season has been crafted to “cater to most people’s tastes, not just your own…”

The staple dates in most people’s diaries are always the Friday and Saturday of WHP’s opening weekend, and this year’s mouth-watering schedule sees electronic dance giants Armand Van Helden and Ibiza resident Axwell of the Swedish House Mafia kicking off the season in style.

The Saturday opening looks set to be a box-office sell out- an array of blockbuster house and techno DJs including Resident Advisor’s number one DJ of 2012, Seth Troxler, Loco Dice, The Martinez Brothers and a home grown rising star in the form of Northerner Hot Since 82.

‘Warehouse Project’ has set its standard to rival residencies that have conquered party capitals of the world like Ibiza, Miami and LA- boasting giants like Sven Vath, The Chemical Brothers, Richie Hawtin, Steve Angello and flavour-of-the-moment Disclosure throughout the whole season.

The WHP geniuses have even managed to wangle the last ever European show of Chic  and Nile Roger’s tour to be unleashed on Manchester soil- ‘freak out’, anyone?

Even if the weird and eerie sounds of minimal techno or the filthy screw beats of dubstep aren’t for you, Manchester’s Warehouse Project will definitely have something to get you showing off in the work canteen on Monday morning.

After all… we don’t count winter as a season in Manchester –  who’s got a chill when there’s Warehouse Project to warm you up?

Last year saw the project make the big move from its iconic Store Street location under Piccadilly Station, to further out of the city at Victoria Warehouse in Salford – but my my did they silence their doubters!

One step into the Warehouse and the cold Trafford air is quickly swept off your face by a sea of ravers all streaming into a gargantuan main room electrified by incredible production and a sound system that leaves your senses numb for days.

And the WHP spell doesn’t end its enchantment there- wandering out there is a maze of narrow corridors leading to smaller, darker rooms each with their own unique sound style and nothing short of the sweaty dark rave that is exactly what you sign up for when you buy a ticket to this experience.

Check back soon for MM’s recommendations on what not to miss at 2013’s Warehouse Project…
