Sore knees, lack of compass… all in a day’s cycling for charity hero pedalling from Sweden to Manchester

A Swedish FC United of Manchester fan who set off on his bike on Wednesday from his homeland to northern England for charity has so far overcome sore kneecaps and not the best sense of direction.

With around 50 miles of his 1,600-mile pilgrimage to raise funds for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) ticked off, Linus Lind is updating the world on his epic journey.

Now braving the Stockholm traffic, having cleverly reserved himself a tent for the journey in a store in the Swedish capital, Linus is hopeful of reaching Broadhurst Park, the site of the almost complete FC United ground in Moston, by August 30.

“I feel pretty fresh. Getting into Stockholm wasn’t all that easy due to a lot of road works but after a while I found myself in the city centre and visited a store where I had reserved a tent for my journey,” he told MM via text.

WHAT TRAFFIC? Thumbs up from Linus in Sweden’s capital.

“The first 20k was mostly gravel though and I had to stop several times to figure out my route and of course I also took the wrong path a few times,” he added on his blog.

“I also started feeling a not-so-good sensation in my kneecaps but luckily that went away a few kilometres later.”

Linus has so far raised 2100 Swedish krona (£180 of his £850 target) for the a humanitarian-aid NGO, present in over 60 countries with more than 20,000 medical (and other) volunteers who work in war-torn regions and help developing countries fight endemic diseases.
