‘Cowardly’: Police hunt two men after elderly couple fall victim to attempted burglary in Wigan

Greater Manchester Police are hunting two men after an elderly couple fell victim to what they have described as a ‘cowardly’ attempted burglary in Wigan last week.

The incident happened shortly after 12pm on August 21 when the duo burst through the side door of a house on Douglas Bank Drive.

The owners, a man and woman in their 80s, were instructed to remain in the kitchen by one of the men, while the other ran upstairs and searched the rooms before they left empty handed and headed towards Woodhouse Lane.

Detective Sergeant Graham Clare said: “This was a cowardly burglary on an elderly couple in their home.

“Fortunately, the victims were not hurt but we want to catch whoever did this and make sure they do not target any more people in this way.

“I am appealing to anybody with information, or who may have seen the men running away from the house at the time, to come forward and speak to police.”

The first offender is described as white, between 20 and 25-years-old, and of large build. He was wearing a light grey tracksuit with the hood up and a dark scarf across his face.

The second offender is described as white, 5ft 8in tall, of slim build, wearing a tracksuit with the hood up and a dark scarf across his face.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7124 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
