Hunt launches for Middleton arsonists as firebugs torch car and garden furniture only minutes apart

By Danielle Wainwright

Three arson attacks outside addresses in Middleton on garden furniture and a car all occurred minutes from each other on Saturday as police hunt for those responsible.

The first incident happened just before 1.20am when a Citroen C4 car was set on fire outside a home on Gable Drive.

As the fire service and police were at the scene, another blaze was found on the same road where a garden fence was set alight.

Only minutes later police received reports that garden furniture was set alight at a home on Gavel Walk.

Detective Constable Dan Daly, from Middleton INPT, said: “As the fires were all in a short space of time and in a small area, we are linking them and treating them as deliberate.

“No one was hurt and they did not pose a risk to anyone as the fire service dealt with the blazes quickly. However, there are obvious dangers when a car full of petrol is set on alight.

“We do not have any descriptions of the offenders but I would ask anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the neighbourhood to contact police.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8742 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
