It’s all in the past: Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney unfazed by Sir Alex Ferguson’s autobiography

By Scott Hunt

Wayne Rooney has insisted he is unfazed by comments in Sir Alex Ferguson’s autobiography and is enjoying his football under David Moyes.

The striker was the star man as Manchester United beat Real Sociedad 1-0 at Old Trafford to go top of Group A.

Rooney says he has not seen Ferguson since the Scot retired and will not respond to the comments over his rumoured request to leave United.

“I’m just happy at playing my football at the minute,” Rooney told SkySports.

“That’s the past I’m looking forward to the future now. I haven’t seen him since he retired.

“I’m happy under the new management and we’re working to get results under David Moyes and his coaching staff.”

Victory for United continued their good start in the Champions League, in contrast to their domestic campaign.

United took the lead with just over one minute on the clock.

Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez made a hash of a clearance, slicing the ball into his own net after Rooney’s shot had cannoned back off the post.

Once again though United failed to add to their lead, missing a catalogue of chances – meaning the second half was tinged with nerves

Sociedad had chances of their own and struck the woodwork twice in the game.

This time however, unlike the weekend, United held on to claim all three points.

It was a much improved showing in general, with the link-up between Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Shinji Kagawa a particular feature.

Rooney, who turns 28 tomorrow, says he feels as though he is in the prime of his career.

“I feel good, I feel fit and I’m enjoying my football,” he said.

“The new coaching staff coming in is really a new lease of life if you like.

“I’m really enjoying working with David Moyes and his staff. The results haven’t been what we want and that’s what we’re working to put right.”
