Manchester holidaymakers short changed due to regional exchange rates variation, claims Which? report

Manchester holidaymakers receive the lowest Euro exchange rate because of regional variation according to a study released today.

The postcode lottery leaves Manchester travellers short changed by £25 for every £500 changed when changing with companies such as Thomas Cook.

Which? carried out the study across the UK by changing £500 into Euro and found the best amounts in London and Glasgow for those who didn’t offer a constant UK rate.

Which? executive director Richard Lloyd said: "While we understand that local competition may play a part in the rates set, it is unfair that people are missing out on the best currency exchange rates just because of where they live.

"Holidays don't come cheap and these anomalies don't help hard-pressed consumers. Currency providers need to make sure their rates are consistent to ensure a fair deal for everyone."

Marks & Spencer offer the same rates nationwide and Sainsbury's showed no regional variation. There was some rare variation between branches of Asda and Tesco revealed the study.
