Shopping wonderland: Manchester’s St Ann’s Square to host markets, fairs and unique bazaars

By Danielle Wainwright

Manchester’s St Ann’s Square is to be transformed into a shopping wonderland as a selection of markets will open every week throughout June.

Beginning May 30, three different week-long markets will be held boasting a range of contemporary and retro goods.

All the markets will include a selection of outdoor cafes, bars and entertainment, which Councillor Bernard Priest believes will make St Ann’s Square the perfect venue next month.

“With three very different markets St Ann’s Square will definitely be worth repeat visits this June,” said Cllr Priest, Manchester City Council executive member for neighbourhood services.

“There will be such a wide variety of stalls and traders a St Ann’s Square will be a must for everyone in the city centre – whether they’re looking to shop or simply take the weight off their feet and enjoy a relaxing drink.”

The first in the line-up of unique bazaars is the vintage fashion market, which is open until June 2, and will be a shoppers’ haven full of boutique-buys and stylish yet affordable items.

Following this, between June 6 and June 9, a wide selection of baked treats and original art at the craft and cake market allows visitors the chance to sit around a Mediterranean-style al fresco bar to taste the goods and talk art.

Lastly, the square will become the prime destination for any gourmet in the city with the arrival of St Ann’s Food Fair from June 13 to June 16.

Bringing together some of the regions finest local producers and purveyors of fine food and drink, organisers are hoping the event will appeal to a wide variety of visitors.
