Coronation Street reveal memorial plans for victims of terror attack following death of superfan Martyn Hett

Coronation Street has announced that it will be dedicating a bench to the victims of the terror attack at Manchester Arena.

The soap – which is filmed in Media City, just a few short miles away from where the bomb went off – will feature the touching memorial on their set.

It comes after the sad news that superfan Martyn Hett was amongst the 22 people who tragically lost their lives following the Ariana Grande concert on Monday.

A moving statement by Corrie read: ‘In memory of our friend Martyn Hett and all the victims of the Manchester bombing on Monday night we will be dedicating a bench on the Coronation Street set to remember everyone affected by the atrocity.

“The dedication will be planned in the coming weeks following an outpouring of affection for 29-year-old Corrie superfan Martyn and all those who lost their lives and have been injured following the Manchester Arena bombing.

“The bench will be positioned in the new extension to the Coronation Street which is in the early stages of construction at the programme’s Trafford site and the transcription will be as follows:

“For Martyn and all those who lost their lives on 22nd May 2017. We Stand Together.”

The ITV soap originally revealed their plans with a tweet to their 1.67milllion followers on Twitter.

The planned tribute has been well-received by fans, with many giving the producers their props for such a kind gesture.

One social media user wrote:  “Sounds like a nice idea, it’s something small, but meaningful, and will be there for many years to come.”

While another added:  “Such a wonderful gesture.  God bless all who have gone and those left behind.”

Last night, the popular soap broadcast a message of solidarity following an episode on ITV.

The tribute featured flowers and candles, along with the words ‘We Stand Together’.

Superfan Martyn was recently named as the 10th person to have died during the terror attack carried out by suspected suicide bomber Salman Abedi.

PR manager Martin loved watching the drama unfold on the cobbles and even had a tattoo on his leg of legendary character Deirdre Barlow.

The 29-year-old was also the visionary behind the viral video called ‘The Audrey Roberts Noise’ that has been watched almost 500,000 times on YouTube.

Upon discovering that Martin had lost his life in the blast, Coronation Street tweeted: “Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Coronation Street Superfan @martynhett #WeStandTogether.”
