Armed robbers wielding hammer and metal bar threaten Rochdale Co-op staff and flee with cash till

By Danielle Wainwright

A gang of armed men, wielding a hammer and a metal bar, robbed a Rochdale Co-op store last week fleeing with a till full of cash.

At around 8.40pm on June 18 the men threatened a member of staff at the Grosvenor Street store in Castleton and ran off with the till.

The men drove off in a red car in the direction of Queensway and police are now appealing for information and witnesses.

Two of the offenders were dressed in black with their faces covered, while the third wore a white coat with grey tracksuit bottoms and black gloves.

One was armed with a hammer and another was carrying a metal bar.

Detective Constable David Read said: “We are urging anyone who has any information about this robbery or who was in the area and saw the three people arriving or leaving the shop to call us.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
