Young biker, 20, dies after motorcycle collides with concrete bollard in Wythenshawe

A motorcyclist has died after colliding with a concrete bollard in Wythenshawe.

A 20-year-old man was riding along Woodhouse Lane, Benchill, Manchester, when he lost control of his Yamaha XJ600 motorcycle and hit a concrete bollard at the side of the road.

Police were called around 8.40pm following reports of a collision involving a motorcycle near to the Overton Road junction.

Officers attended the scene and found the motorcyclist had suffered serious injuries and was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

Police Constable Ian Beaumont of Greater Manchester Police said: “Our thoughts are with his family, who are understandably devastated by the tragic news.

“We have officers supporting them as best we can at this difficult time and are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the full facts.”

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the SCIU investigation team.
