You won’t believe this dog… Meet cuddly Rolo, the Manchester Shar Pei in need of loving home

By Sarah Hodgson

The country is celebrating after William and Kate welcomed a royal son to the world, but if you’re looking to find your own prince then look no further.

Rolo is in desperate need of a new home with a loving family, he is a two-year-old Shar Pei who has been signed over to Rochdale Dog Rescue’s care due to change in family circumstances.

Coryn Shields, Manager of Rochdale Dog Rescue, says that Rolo is missing his family terribly and is not very happy in kennels.

She said: “Poor Rolo isn’t doing very well in kennels, he’s not a happy boy at all, bless him.

“He is ok whilst out in the paddock, a bit aloof and he does come across as a nervous lad as well.”

Raised by his previous owners since he was a pup he is fawn in colour and excellent with children and other dogs, is house-trained and non-destructive.

Rolo is well-behaved and is fantastic on his lead and very easy to walk and would make a great addition to any house.

Coryn thinks that he will perk up once he finds a new home and that he is just scared and upset at being moved to kennels.

Staff at the centre have spent a lot of time with Rolo to help him settle into life at the kennels, including taking him on long walks and spending extra time with him.

Coryn said: “After sitting with him for a while he couldn’t even be tempted by a tuna sandwich but slowly he came to have a sniff and let me stroke him.

“He likes his bum being scratched and eventually he came round and kept sniffing my face, pretty sure he wanted a kiss so we had a couple of cuddles and tried to reassure him it was ok.”

She says that Rolo was won over in the end and even got a little bit giddy, sat and gave paw – as well as sharing the all-important tuna sandwich.

Coryn said: “He seems like a really nice lad and I think in the home environment he will be totally different as he showed today once I’d spent some time with him. The poor lad must be missing home.”
