Health and happiness at the heart of Stockport’s Wellbeing Week

Health and happiness will be at the heart of Stockport’s Wellbeing Week, which aims to unite the community and improve the quality of life in the area.

Each day will be based on the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’, which are, ‘Keep Learning, Connect, Give, Be Active and Take Notice’.

Stockport residents will be given advice on how to easily incorporate these into their everyday lives.

A particular focus of wellbeing week is to bring together people who live on their own and find it hard to meet new people.

The aim is to prevent people feeling lonely or isolated, for example elderly people who have lost partners or friends.

Councillor John Pantall, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Independence and Wellbeing, said: “Wellbeing week is a great opportunity to encourage and help people and families improve their wellbeing and enjoyment with everyday life.”

The week will begin with a festival in Stockport Town Hall Ballroom, where there will be CPR lessons, Yoga sessions and demonstrations of meditation and mindfulness.

Later on in the week there will be plenty of opportunities to socialise and meet new people with a tea party, a wellbeing quiz and a blue plaque walk around the town centre.

The week culminates with a special event on World Mental Health Day which will focus on breaking down the stigma attached to mental health issues.

There will also be information available about help and support available for Stockport residents.

Stockport Wellness Week will take place from the 5th-10th October. For more information visit www.stockport.gov.uk/wellbeingweek
