‘It’s like a blancmange’: Flitcroft slams Bury’s pudding pitch after weekend win

Bury manager David Flitcroft slammed the pitch at the JD Stadium, claiming it was the worst in League Two following their 2-1 win over Carlisle United.

Daniel Nardiello scored twice, either side of a Steven Rigg strike, and later missed a penalty as the Shakers moved back into the playoff places.

Flitcroft said it will force him to adapt his side’s playing style in the short term as they continue to aim for promotion.

“We’re trying to strive for something different at the football club but 60% of the pitch has failed – it’s absolutely diabolical, the worst in the league by a mile, it’s like a blancmange,” he said

“We’re at a point now where we’re like old Bury, we’re all excited because we’re getting games on – I want a flat pitch, a pitch where we can move the ball quickly.

“When I look at that pitch and the way the players played I have nothing but pride – I’ve got to modify the way we play and the way we do things.”

The Shakers face Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night after the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch earlier this month.

Bury have lost only once in their last six league outings and face a Stanley side that have lost their last two, slipping into the bottom half.

Saturday’s two-goal hero Nardiello said that the Shakers are now looking to build up momentum and return to their early season form.

“We’re pleased with the three points but now we have to move onto Tuesday and the local derby against Accrington believing we can go there and get the three points,” he said.

“It’s only up the road so it’s one lots of the fans go to and we want to go there make them proud and get the win.

“I love playing Saturdays and then Tuesdays – if we can pick up a few wins it gets the momentum and confidence up.”
