For horror fans, it is a week to indulge in Manchester.
Not only is Manchester’s home of horror and cult films, Grimm Up North, hosting a triple-bill, but one of the most influential horror-film sound-trackers of all time is in town.
Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin, will be appearing at Gorilla, Whitworth Street, tonight.
Composer and keyboard player for the Italian progressive rock band Goblin, Claudio Simonetti is responsible for what is often considered one of the most terrifying soundtracks of all time – Suspiria.
He will be performing for the first time ever in Manchester.
Claudio told MM: “Progressive rock of the 70’s had always been the best, I have grown up with this kind of music, and it has always been my inspiration.
“It is a pleasure playing with Goblin, I always feel great when we’re together.”
Goblin also recorded the soundtrack to giallo masterpiece Tenebrae, which is screening only days after the band perform in the city.
“I really look forward to playing in Manchester for the first time and it is very fitting that it comes just days before one of our films is shown,” Claudio said. “
Claudio is highly regarded for his work on the films of Italian horror maestro Dario Argento, with whom he has worked almost exclusively since 1975.
After two more albums, the group split up in 1978, and Claudio started his solo career.
As well as Tenebrae, the 1981 horror classic An American Werewolf in London will also be screened on February 27 at The Dancehouse, Oxford Road.
The following day, Dario Argento’s notorious horror, Tenebrae returns in all its depraved glory inside Gorilla.
Ben Moss, assistant festival co-ordinator at Grimm Up North said that fans of the big screen are in for a treat.
He told MM: “It’s like the cinema in the basic fact it’s a crowd watching a film on the big screen, but we do like to foster a sense of community beyond simply turning up watching and leaving.
“Tenebrae is also the world’s first public screening of Arrow Video’s newly re-mastered high definition cut of the film, so it is indeed a markedly special screening.”
