‘Only Bill Gates could’: Salford owner Marwan Koukash can’t afford Manu Tuilagi, says Leicester Tigers chief

Salford Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash ‘would need to be Bill Gates’ to afford the tranfers fee for Manu Tuilagi, according to Leicester Tigers chief.

Koukash has expressed his frustration at watching the stars of rugby league crossing codes to play union, most notably Sam Burgess, and wants to reverse the trend.

However his pursuit of British and Irish Lions star, Manu Tuilagi, is unlikely to be successful with Leicester Tigers chief, Simon Cohen, saying the 22-year-old is going nowhere.

“Manu is under contract and unless the man is Bill Gates, he couldn’t afford the transfer fee,” he told the Leicester Mercury.

“I don’t know whether he is interested in Manu Tuilagi or not but we have absolutely no interest in selling him.”

Koukash signed 14 players in preparation for the current season and has spoken about his desire to bring some of the best players from rugby union to the Reds.

“I will buy players from Rugby Union and I mean the very top players,” he said.

“We already have our eyes on a few and if this is what we have to do, we will do it. We are already on the lookout at players who have played for the British Lions.

“If we want them, we will get them. I will show rugby union what I can do.”
